
UZBEKISTAN'S EXPERIENCE IN THE GLOBAL FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY WAS DISCUSSED AT THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM IN TASHKENT
The II International Forum on Poverty Reduction has completed its work. Within the framework of 6 thematic panel sessions, a wide range of issues were discussed, problems and proposals for developing countries were voiced. The progress made in Uzbekistan in the field of poverty reduction was noted, despite such challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic, instability of the world economy, etc.
Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee, speaking about the reforms aimed at combating poverty in Uzbekistan, focused on the tools used to create social programs, increase the targeting of support for the poor, develop entrepreneurship, and understand the effectiveness of various programs adopted.

With the election of Shavkat Mirziyoyev as head of state in 2016, Uzbekistan has significantly stepped up its policy in the Afghan direction. Since that time, the Afghan strategy of Uzbekistan has become even more meaningful, pragmatic and dynamic.

Tashkent hosted the II International Forum on the topic: "Implementing of best practices in poverty reduction", organized by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) jointly with the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Uzbekistan and the United Nations Children's Fund in Uzbekistan (UNICEF).
Alfred Nobel Prize Laureate in 2019, co-founder of the global initiative to combat poverty J-PAL, american economist Abhijit Banerjee addressed the Forum participants with a greeting.
The expert noted that governments around the world are strengthening their social protection programs in response to the coronavirus pandemic, in particular, about 3,856 programs have been planned or implemented to date.
POLITICAL PARTIES ARE OFFICIALLY ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EARLY PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN
On May 15, 2023, the Central Election Commission allowed the following political parties to participate in the early Presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which will be held on July 9 this year, in the order of priority of their applications:
- The People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (resolution of the Central Election Commission № 1255);
- The Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (resolution of the Central Election Commission № 1256);
- The Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Adolat (resolution of the Central Election Commission № 1257);
- The Ecological Party Uzbekistan (resolution of the Central Election Commission № 1258);
- The Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Milliy Tiklanish (resolution of the Central Election Commission № 1259).
The resolutions of the CEC on the issue will be posted on the website of the CEC, and information on political parties allowed to participate in the election will be published in the national press.

THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE EUROPEAN BANK FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT WILL BE HELD IN UZBEKISTAN
On May 16-18, the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will be held in Samarkand, under the general main theme - "Investing in Resilience".
The event is expected to be attended by more than 2,000 guests from 73 countries, including representatives of foreign governments, heads of multinational corporations, international financial institutions and banks, experts in the field of economics, investment, finance and technology, as well as world media.
The central theme of the event will be investing in ensuring the sustainability of the economy. During the meeting, panel discussions are planned on the development of measures to overcome the challenges faced by the Bank's member countries.
