The Uzbek power industry has reported on the projects to be completed in the next five years. It seems there is nothing much to surprise. They did it, though, after announcing of the intention to build a new cogeneration thermal power plant in Tashkent.

Introduction of the latest technologies in the power system of Uzbekistan has turned into one of the main trends at the current stage of its development. The country ranks among the region’s first to adopt cogeneration and pioneer this field. 2013 marked the completion of a safely unique project on the introduction of a cogeneration gas turbine technology at the Tashkent Thermal Power Plant, as one of the foremost suppliers of electricity and heat for the housing and industrial sector of the capital.

The gas turbine with the capacity of 27.15 MW is equipped with a generator and a steam recovery boiler. The introduction of the modern technology of gas turbine-based power generation has allowed increasing energy performance, enhancing its reliability and efficiency, and providing residents of the capital with guaranteed power.

Experts note that the use of cogeneration technology at power plants in megacities might effectively complement the energy market without reconstructing its networks. It significantly improves the quality of electricity and heat. The stand-alone operation of cogeneration plants supply electricity with stable parameters of voltage and frequency, and thermal energy with stable parameters of temperature.

Having successfully implemented the first pilot project at the Tashkent TPP, the domestic energy specialists have planned the construction of a power station through the loan of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The key objective of the project comes to the steady supply of thermal and electric energy, saving of natural energy resources and creation of new jobs.

It is projected to build the new facility on an idle area adjacent to the territory of the district heating plant №4. The power plant will be equipped with four modern gas turbines with a capacity of 27 MW each, which will reduce noise and vibration impacts on residential buildings by means of anti-noise technologies, and significantly reduce harmful emissions to the environment.
