UZBEKISTAN ELECTED AS A MEMBER OF THE COMMISSION ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF ECOSOC
On April 13, elections of members of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development for the period 2023-2026 were held at the UN headquarters in New York City as part of the annual meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
During the event, Uzbekistan was unanimously elected by acclamation (universal approval) as a member of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development for 2023-2026.
The Commission is a subsidiary body of the UN Economic and Social Council. It was established in 1992 to provide qualified advisory assistance to the General Assembly and the ECOSOC on topical scientific, technical, innovative and engineering issues in order to improve policy in this direction. The Commission plays an important role in developing recommendations and guidelines on science and technology within the UN common system.

On April 8, 2022 the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a Decree in which goals are set extensively with specific timeframes for taking measures in a number of key areas of the country's economic development to create favorable conditions for the development of the private sector, as well as measures to accelerate the process of privatization, the fight against corruption and demonopolization.
It should be noted that this Presidential Decree is directly related to the "Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026".
AFGHANISTAN HAS DENIED THE SPREAD OF MISINFORMATION THAT IT ALLEGEDLY PLANS TO STOP COOPERATION WITH UZBEKISTAN RAILWAYS JSC
On April 12-14, Termez hosted a meeting of the heads of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan railway departments.
According to the official website of JSC "O'zbekiston temir yo'llari", the delegation of Afghanistan was led by the head of the Afghan Railways Bakhtulrahmon Sharafat.
The Afghan side expressed gratitude for the measures taken by the Uzbek side to strengthen bilateral relations and the substantial assistance provided to Afghanistan.
At the same time, the Afghan side denied reports that Afghanistan allegedly plans to stop cooperation with Uzbekistan Railways JSC. Bakhtulrahmon Sharafat specifically emphasized the intention to strengthen bilateral cooperation and plan for its further expansion.
«INNOPROM-2022: CENTRAL ASIA» - SPACE FOR A TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH
On April 25 this year, the International Industrial Exhibition "Innoprom. Central Asia" - the largest event in the region aimed at enhancing investment, industrial, trade and economic cooperation, as well as establishing new business contacts and developing industrial cooperation between enterprises of Central Asian countries - started. The organizers are the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
The key objective of the exhibition is to build a dialogue between regions and countries in order to find points of common interest to give new impetus to the growth of investment, industrial, trade and economic cooperation, as well as to increase the number of mutually beneficial projects.
UZBEKISTAN ON THE PATH OF DIGITALIZATION: ACHIEVEMENTS AND PLANS
The coronavirus pandemic has revealed all the benefits and accelerated the processes of digitalization around the world. On how to build an effective digitalization policy, and what steps are being taken in Uzbekistan in this direction, “Dunyo” IA correspondent talked with Farrukh Khakimov, Head of Department at the Development Strategy Center.
- For developing countries and for Uzbekistan, in particular, digital transformation has a potential to further modernize society and integrate national economy into the global processes, - says the expert. - In this vein, in the framework of the ongoing reforms and in the new Development Strategy of Uzbekistan for the coming five years special attention is being paid to digitalization of major spheres and to build a true information society in the country.
Uzbekistan prioritized digitalization and development of information-communication technologies (ICT) yet in early 2000s. For instance, Uzbekistan has been implementing an integrated program of National Information and Communication System Development 2013-2020, the National Action Strategy on Five Priority Development Areas 2017-2021, the “Digital Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy and the latest the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 to implement digital transformation in national economy, industry and society in general.
